About Audio Converters
If you’re planning to connect a digital audio source such as a television or games console to an amplifier that only has analogue inputs then you’ll need a digital to analogue converter.
The digital to analogue converter, otherwise known as a “DAC” is a small box that connects between your digital audio source such as a television and your analogue audio receiver such as your stereo amplifier.
The digital signal is decoded and output in an analogue format that your amplifier can accept.
Digital to analogue converts often have an RCA stereo output to connect to your amplifier, some also feature a 3.5mm audio jack output. It doesn’t matter too much provided you use the correct analogue audio cable.
Don’t forget that alongside your DAC you’ll need an optical cable to connect it to your digital audio source and an analogue audio cable to make the connection to your amplifier.
DAC’s are powered devices so you’ll need a free socket outlet to plug it in, or a 5V USB power port for compatible DAC’s.
