Description

The Andover Audio SpinBase 2 is a compact powered turntable speaker that replaces a pair of bookshelf speakers, an amplifier and a phono stage with a single base your deck sits on top of.

Andover's patented IsoGroove® technology isolates the turntable from the speaker's own vibration, so there is no hum, no feedback and no skipping even though the two are stacked together.

A 270° driver array spreads the sound far wider than the cabinet suggests, which means you get a convincing stereo image without measuring out speaker positions or running cables across the room.

It is an ideal first proper vinyl system, and an equally tidy answer for anyone downsizing from separates in a smaller lounge, bedroom or home office.

  • IsoGroove® Anti-Feedback Technology: Stand your turntable directly on top and play at volume without the rumble or feedback you would normally get from placing a deck on a speaker.
  • Built-In Phono Preamp: Works with turntables that have their own preamp and those that don't, so there is nothing else to buy before you can play a record.
  • 70W Dual Direct Drive Bi-Amplification: Separate amplification for the woofers and tweeters keeps bass and detail distinct, delivering full-range sound from a cabinet that fits on a sideboard.
  • Two-Way Bluetooth: Stream playlists in from your phone, or send your records out to Bluetooth headphones and speakers for late-night listening.
  • Five Input Options: Phono, Line (AUX), optical digital, USB flash drive and Bluetooth mean it handles a TV or streamer just as happily as a turntable.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the SpinBase 2 and the SpinBase MAX 2?

The SpinBase 2 uses two oval woofers and 70W of total bi-amplified power, while the MAX 2 steps up to four larger round woofers and 100W. The MAX 2 also reaches slightly lower, down to 50 Hz against 60 Hz for the SpinBase 2, and sits marginally taller to house the bigger driver array. Both use the same IsoGroove® isolation and built-in phono stage.

Will the SpinBase 2 work with my existing turntable?

Yes, in almost all cases. The SpinBase 2 has a phono preamp built in for decks that don't have one, and decks that already include a preamp connect to the Line (AUX) input instead. There is no need to match components or add a separate phono stage.

Is the SpinBase 2 a good option if I am new to vinyl?

Yes, it is one of the simplest ways into records properly. Speakers, amplification and phono stage are all in one cabinet, so setup amounts to connecting your turntable and plugging in. The IsoGroove® isolation also removes the skipping and feedback that catch out most first-time setups.

Will the SpinBase 2 sound as good as a pair of bookshelf speakers?

The SpinBase 2 uses a 270° driver array to create a wide soundstage from a single cabinet, so you get a genuine stereo effect without the careful positioning bookshelf speakers demand. Dual direct drive bi-amplification handles the woofers and tweeters separately for clearer detail. It is designed specifically as an alternative to a conventional bookshelf pair rather than a compromise on one.

Can I connect headphones or add a subwoofer to the SpinBase 2?

Yes to both. There is a headphone output for private listening, plus a subwoofer output that also feeds powered speakers. With a subwoofer connected, the selectable 100 Hz high-pass filter redirects low bass away from the main drivers so the SpinBase 2 can play louder without strain.
