Turntable Features

• Vinyl Playback: Turntables are designed to play vinyl records with precision, faithfully reproducing the analog audio that has captivated music lovers for generations.

• Adjustable Playback Speed: Many turntables offer selectable playback speeds, including 33 1/3, 45, and 78 RPM, ensuring compatibility with various types of vinyl records.

• Tonearm & Cartridge: They feature a tonearm and cartridge assembly, responsible for tracking the grooves on the vinyl and translating them into sound.

• Built-In Preamps: Some turntables come with built-in preamplifiers, making it easy to connect directly to powered speakers or audio systems without the need for an external preamp.

• Retro Aesthetics: Turntables often feature a classic and retro-inspired design, adding a touch of vintage charm to your audio setup.

Turntable Connections

• Wired - Cable: Turntables such as the TEAC TN-175 are connected to your speakers or amplifier via an RCA cable. This is the simplest method provided you can place your turntable nearby your amplifier or speakers.

• Wireless - Bluetooth: We have a range of Bluetooth turntables such as the TEAC TN-180BT or the Audio Technica LP60XBT which can wirelessly connect a compatible Bluetooth speaker system. Ideal for situations where the turntable is sited away from the speakers.

Turntable Speakers

You’ll need to connect your turntable to a set of active bookshelf speakers or an amplifier with passive speakers to start enjoying your vinyl records.

What you choose really depends on what type of setup you’re looking for.

If you just want to enjoy your music in great quality with ease then we’d recommend looking at our turntable with speaker bundles which pairs the most popular turntables with the most popular active bookshelf speaker.

If however you’re after the best quality then you can pair your turntable with a HiFi amplifier and utilise passive bookshelf speakers.

Turntable Jargon

We’d recommend taking a look at our turntable buying guide.

This guide covers everything you need to know about turntables.

But here’s some of the main terminology that you’ll see when browsing our range:

• Phono EQ: All of our turntables feature a Phono EQ (turntable amplifier) which means you can easily connect them directly to any amplifier or active speakers.

• Bluetooth: This means the turntable can wirelessly connect to compatible Bluetooth speakers without requiring a physical cable connection between them.

• Belt Drive: Most of our turntables are belt drive, the motor is separate to the platter (where you place your records) and turns the platter via the belt. These are slightly slower to start up but the rubber belt helps to reduce vibrations picked up by the stylus. They are suitable for DJing but are the optimal choice for home audio.

• Semi Automatic / Automatic: Semi automatic turntables will automatically return the tone arm to the resting position when a record stops playing whereas a fully automatic one will move the tone arm to the start of the record at the touch of a button.

• USB: If you want to digitise your music to MP3 for playback on your computer or smart phone then you'll need to look for a USB turntable such as the Audio Technica LP60XUSB. Using software such as Audacity you can then record your music to your PC or Mac.
