The answer is almost always the engineering each brand has built its reputation on, so here is what actually separates them.

Bookshelf or Floorstanding?

Room size settles this faster than any other question. Bookshelf speakers keep a small or medium room in proportion and image superbly, although they want dedicated speaker stands to give their best.

Floorstanding speakers bring deeper bass and a greater sense of scale, but they need room to breathe and will swamp a small space.

Which Brand Suits Your Ears?

DALI makes its wood fibre cones in-house and pairs them with oversized soft dome tweeters, giving an open, dynamic sound that suits lively music.

Monitor Audio takes the opposite route with C-CAM drivers, a ceramic-coated aluminium and magnesium alloy borrowed from aerospace, which resists cone flex for a crisp, precise result.

Matching Speakers to Your Amplifier

Everything on this page is passive, so it needs an amplifier to drive it.

Sensitivity matters more here than watts. A speaker rated around 88dB or higher will play plenty loud on modest power, while lower figures ask for a firmer hand.
