  • Vanguard Dynamic Voice Dock Amazon Echo Wall/Ceiling Mount Review

You’ve got discreet flush mounted ceiling speakers and a hidden bluetooth amplifier, but what options do you have to hide away the Amazon Echo?

The purpose of the Vanguard Dynamics VoiceDock is to make your Amazon Echo install as discreet as your ceiling speakers.

Rather than plonking your echo dot on the kitchen side or on the counter it lets you cut a hole and flush it into the wall or ceiling.

It’s a relatively simple product made up of two pieces.

1 – The Mount

The flush mount, this part goes into your wall or ceiling after cutting a hole. The spring clips hold it in place much like a downlight. Your echo dot then fits snugly into the mount leaving a cut out for you to connect the power cable and 3.5mm aux input if required.

2- The Magnetic Grille

Once installed you can finish off the Vanguard Dynamics VoiceDock with a simple magnetic trim.

You get these in square and circular which is handy depending on where you are fitting it. On the ceiling then likely go circular, but on the wall a square may look better.

The grille is paintable as well so you can match it to your decor.

So What’s Not To Like?

There are a couple of things stopping it getting nearer the 10/10 mark unfortunately. But bear with me here and I’ll explain why….

  1. It’s more expensive than an Echo Dot…. unfortunately it comes in at £34.99 and at time of writing the echo dot 2nd generation is available for £29.99… so the price is a bit of an annoyance, however putting things into scale here the echo dot’s are sold in mass volume and at a loss by Amazon to get people into their ecosystem so it’s not a completely fair comparison. But at the end of the day you’re swapping £35 for a flush, discreet Amazon Echo mount solution that’ll keep your Echo housed for years of voice-control enjoyment. It’s a small price to pay for the end-result.
  2. At present the VoiceDock is only available for the 2nd generation Amazon Echo and Amazon have just released the third gen…. at the minute I can’t see any big issues with this, except for the fact that the Amazon Sub only works with the third gen, so if that’s a consideration then you’ll want to avoid the VoiceDock. However for general streaming, Amazon Multiroom etc then the 2nd gen is absolutely fine and you’ll pick one up super cheap now.

Conclusion

All in all we think the Vanguard Dynamics VoiceDock is a great product at a reasonable price for what you achieve. The end result is worth the £35 cost and as long as you don’t want the Amazon Sub then you can’t go too far wrong.

Great product but lets hope they bring one out for the 3rd generation as well.
